About The Los Angeles User Experience Meetup

The UX Meetup started in May of 2007 when a group of about 30 User Experience evangelists met in Glendale. This group recognized that even though there are a large number of people practicing various forms of User Experience Design, those professionals were disconnected and scattered throughout the sprawling Los Angeles metropolis. We decided that it was time for Los Angeles to have a thriving community of UX people that meet regularly.

At that first meeting, we agreed that:

a) The Meetup group would, for the time being, remain unaffiliated with any particular professional organizations

b) The group would be run on an ad-hoc and volunteer basis, with no dues and no official governing board

c) We would target meetings every other month, and

d) We would try to hold meetings across LA County, so that all of the community members would at some point have to travel long distance to attend.

Well, the idea has really taken off! Since our first gathering in Glendale, the group has grown to almost 700 members. We have held events every other month for almost two years running, and we've managed to have a lot of fun and learn a lot of things.

The Meetup group remains unaffiliated with any particular professional organization, but still serves as a networking point (via the email list) and centralized calendar for UX related events in Southern California. Joining the Meetup doesn't automatically make you a member of these groups but you will at least be notified when they meet in Los Angeles. Last year, we made sure everyone on the Meetup knew about all the events around town and happily there was at least one UX-related event each month.

Join the UX Meetup to stay abreast of all UX-related events. We collaborate with active local groups, like the IxDA Los Angeles, and the newly formed LA UX Book club to coordinate schedules so that everyone in our community has a great, complementary schedule of events, speakers, etc.
