Weston Thompson (Mar 24, 2008)

"It's a great group of people, and a fantastic way to keep plugged into the IA community in L.A. After three meetings, I'm recognizing more and more faces."

Annaka V Johnson (Mar 21, 2008)

"Great idea for a meeting, but we needed more like 10 minutes on each topic."

Carol (Mar 21, 2008)

"I enjoyed talking to many people as opposed to only one table. I also liked hearing how everyone worked."

Tommy Keswick (Mar 21, 2008)

"To see, hear, and learn from the processes and experiences of others, and to simultaneously contribute to that dialogue."

manoj agarwala (Mar 21, 2008)

"The Los Angeles UX meetup is the best place to meet your local peers, expand tor network, and talk shop to your heart's delight."

Jens Jonason (Mar 21, 2008)

"The speed dating idea was a good one, although the logistics were a bit confusing. Maybe taller table numbers with a really big number on it. Lots of people had a hard time finding the numbers."

Naomi Marcussen (Mar 21, 2008)

"Network and meet people in the business."

Thuy Vuong (Mar 21, 2008)

"Good stuff! Lots of networking opportunities. Learn what others are doing."

Peter Maziak (Mar 21, 2008)

"Whether you're a UX pro or learning the ropes, this group is an excellent way to meet other smart, dedicated people who enjoy sharing their UX knowledge. I'm glad to be a member!"

Lea Ann Hutter (Mar 20, 2008)

"I'm new to this realm and particularly interested in ID. There seem to be so many experienced people at this Meetup and I'd like to hear short presentations on a particular aspect of their jobs."

Jeremiah Cohick (Mar 20, 2008)

"The Tools of the UX Trade Meetup was a well-organized and attended event. The "speed dating" format was a great way of starting discussions on ways to design and frame what "design" can be about. Meeting professionals from all levels of the IA field was a good way to bond and develop professional relationships: fostering a community of support. And Big Kudos to "coach" Weston - for running the show and redefining what a 'whistle-blower ' is..."

John Khuu (Mar 20, 2008)

"Great people. Interesting, engaging topics."

Grace Lau (Mar 20, 2008)

"It's a great place to interface with about 80 other minds."

Troy Gardner (Mar 20, 2008)

"I enjoyed this as a networking event and a place to meet others. The speed dating approach was good because it lent structure. The 10 topics on the tables were a little goofy, but in some cases they did provide a starting point for conversation. Thanks to Weston for organizing and to the LA Times interactive folks for hosting!"

Hilary Bienstock (Mar 20, 2008)

"Great way to learn best practices from the experts out in the field. I learned a lot."

Rob Dabney (Mar 20, 2008)

"This group's organizers are very supportive and are enthusiastic about letting members contribute in any way they like. If you have an idea, it's easy to get everyone else thinking about it."

Matt Hays (Feb 5, 2008)

"It was my first meetup and I really enjoyed iRise demo, food and people there. Thanks to all organizers!"

Sam Han (Feb 2, 2008)

"It was my first meeting and I found it a very enjoyable and informative group of people."

Daniel Yang (Nov 9, 2007)

"There are truly some great people who make up the group."

Jody Perez (Nov 9, 2007)

"Keeping up the 1/month meetings will be great. I'm looking forward to future meet ups."

Gary Minnaert (Nov 9, 2007)

"I highly recommend. Great smart nice crowd."

About this Meetup

Basically, I'm sick and tired of not having a thriving community of UX people in Southern California. I suppose it's typical Bay Area / New York envy. They have communities that meet regularly why can't we?

I've been a hiring manager at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online for the last three years , so I have a good idea of how many of us are out there -- NOT ENOUGH.

I'm not motivated enough to become active in SIG-CHI-LA, or IAI, or UXNet, or IXDA, or SIG-IA, or UPA or STC etc etc. But I am motivated enough to spend 10 bucks a month on a Meetup group where most of the work is done for me!!

So, as I hear about events, I'll post them here.

If you hear about an event, email me via this group, or at chris period chandler at gmail period com and I'll post it to this group.

I want this to be the year Southern California gets a real community.
